Monterey Bay Aquarium

I attended a meeting in California’s Central Coast this week. Situated on Cannery Row, one of our dinners took place at the very scenic Monterey Bay Aquarium.

This is the view from the back deck of the aquarium overlooking Monterey Bay. We had half of the aquarium to ourselves (the Open Sea and Jellyfish exhibits) and enjoyed roaming and learning. Here are just a few of the friends we encountered at the aquarium.

BBQ on the weekend

The Katy Trail Ice House Outpost serves BBQ Thurs-Sun and when they run out, they’re out. We ventured over there a week or two back, and it is definitely worth it to wait until the weekend to visit!

Image

They serve their full menu on the weekend, too.

Image

We sat on the back patio where dogs (and people) are welcome.

Image

We picked a sunny Sunday and, of course, had to have the BBQ.

M ordered brisket…

And I ordered the turkey sandwich plate.

But you didn’t come here to see a foil-wrapped meal.

The turkey was delish and I’ve never met a piece of Texas Toast I didn’t love. It comes with coleslaw (which I wasn’t a huge fan of – I prefer mine creamy and with carrots), charro beans (which were CRAZY good) and house made BBQ sauce – tangy and tasty, just the way BBQ sauce should be!

We left happy little (BBQ) lovers 🙂

Give them a try if you’re in the mood for a patio (get there early) and tasty BBQ. Find them here on the web!

Two years ago today, we adopted Oscar (on the right). He came from humble and certainly troubled beginnings, but we have seen him change, grow and become a more confident pup full of life and zeal in the weeks and months since. He’s taught us oh so much about patience and love. We walked (a lot), wore a costume (or two), and learned to deal with his generally crazy ways. Two years ago today, Oscar Winn (because all of our pets have middle names) rescued us and for that, we are so lucky.

Kenny’s Burger Joint

Image

A few days ago, we introduced a few friends to Kenny’s Burger Joint in Frisco. If you’re a pork ribs lover, they have $1 ribs every Sunday (while they last!) We, instead, opted for their namesake and went straight for the burgers. We started with orders of white truffle parmesan fries and a stack of onion rings – they were so good, they were snapped up before I could snap a picture. The guys ate their onion rings with ketchup; I prefer mine straight. And the white truffle fries were sublime……..

We moved on to the main event. M ordered the hatch green chile burger (on special) and was not disappointed. I ordered a turkey burger. Perfectly grilled with a savory seasoning and served with nice, crisp veg. We ordered sweet potato fries and they, like the onion rings, met their end before a picture could be grabbed. I did snap the gorgeous turkey burger… Hey, good lookin’!

Wedding Fun at the Filter Building

 Image

We had a fantastic time at J and P’s wedding on Friday night! But I’m getting a little ahead of myself…

A friend and I started at Nordstrom at Northpark. I went to Bobbi Brown and she went to Kevyn Aucoin. With makeup done (a dewy, natural look for me), I raced over to the drybar for my blowout. Speaking of the drybar…LOVED the experience! Great blowout and their products smell divine (hello Mai Tai Spritzer!) I would totally go back! Here’s the during…

Image

And the after!

ImageI ordered the Cosmopolitan…I’ve never had so much curl in my life!!

Running a few minutes behind, we took a few back roads to the venue. The bride and groom selected the Filter Building at White Rock Lake for their ceremony and reception. Though it was humid, the weather held up well…not too hot and no rain!

The Filter Building is a really cool, older building that’s got great bones and a phenomenal lakeside perch on White Rock Lake.

Image Doesn’t that old tower just look glorious and glowing bathed in the light from the sunset?

After the “I do’s” we hung out for a cocktail party and a few pictures on the lawn before heading inside.

The old, red brick exterior is met with an industrial interior…I love a good mix of styles! I can only describe their wedding as Texas Chic…think wildflowers and burlap with a little sparkle and lots of elegance. The happy couple thought of everything… a word search on the back of the programs (which doubled as fans), “dancing shoes” for the girls, milk glass vases for fresh, eclectic arrangements and the dinner was catered by the always tasty Celebration Restaurant. On the southern-inspired menu was a nice green salad, Chicken Madeira, oven roasted new potatoes and steamed asparagus. It was so yummy I forgot to take a picture! 😦

We worked off the supper and dessert calories with some good ol’ fashioned, photo booth fun. M, the girls and I were terribly uncoordinated!!

Image We let the bride and groom have a turn at the photo booth while we played goofballs in the foreground.

Image

Not settled with our night, we took our talents to the dance floor and, on cue, they dimmed the lights to let our necklaces and glasses glowwwww!!

All in all, a clever, chic and eclectic wedding…with the Filter Building serving as a super fine backdrop! Tell me, what’s the coolest event/wedding venue you’ve been to?

A Cloudy Day

Classic Trench

The sun is in hiding today – which is fine with me. I’m not sure what it is, but when the clouds are out, I grab my trench – even without the threat of rain. Anyone else? Just me, huh. Maybe it’s appropriate that the sun isn’t shining today – Memorial Day – as America honors its fallen soldiers. Doesn’t seem right to enjoy the sunshine on a rather somber day.
In life, a cloudy day makes you appreciate the sunny ones (physically and metaphorically.)
PS – I’m having  a total love fest with navy this spring!
